Die Ausstellung "It was their dust that we breathed in"

RADAR: Eda Aslan. „It was their dust that we breathed in"

October 17, 2026 – January 17, 2027
Opening: Friday (October 16), 6 p.m.

Eda Aslan (b. 1993, Istanbul) is an artist and researcher based in Hamburg. She earned degrees in sculpture and painting from Marmara University and began her master’s program in “Time-Based Media” at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg (Hamburg University of Fine Arts) in 2021. Her work explores abandoned spaces, narratives, archives, and testimonies that have been omitted, forgotten, or left undocumented in historical accounts. She examines these within the context of personal experience and collective memory.

In her RADAR project “It was their dust that we breathed in,” Aslan explores the past, present, and future of objects within institutional contexts. Through storage, discarding, and reuse, these objects become part of a cycle. The starting point for her RADAR exhibition is various materials that Aslan found at the LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur, including a doorstop, aluminum parts, and wood that was originally used in the design of the exhibition “Kirchner. Picasso” (Sep. 26, 2025–Jan. 18, 2026). Using these old objects, she has created new ones, including a ramp that alludes to transitions within the museum’s architecture and aluminum doorstops. Another work, consisting of 72 photographs, also offers insights into the realm of private memory.

Curated by Marianne Wagner.

RADAR is a collaboration between the LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur and the Westfälischer Kunstverein.
