Transition. Cultural Understanding, Integrity and Democracy in Ukraine and Beyond
A series of talks, accompanied by interventions of Ukrainian artists in the contemporary art collection
December 9, 2022 – May 7, 2023
Context
Since the end of the Cold War, the concept of Eastern, Central, and Western Europe has gained more and more geographical significance every year. However, communication problems between Eastern and Western parts of Europe were not solved. The conception of so - called "brotherly nations" and the mixing of cultural identity is a distortion and a mistake at the political level, which in part has led to the catastrophic consequences of today.
The European War of 2022, which started in Ukraine and has assumed the name "War against Ukraine," has put the entire world in a transition state. The War opens a global question of the independence and freedom, security, and integrity of Europe, and raises the issue of protecting democracy in countries within Europe and beyond.
The starting point for the conversations will be the artistic intervention of the Ukrainian artists in the contemporary collection of the LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur. The topics of the “Transition Talks” are mirroring the connections between the art works of the collection and the interventions.
